What did Gamesmaster give it by the way?

75%

They said that the realistic graphics were spoilt by pop up and animations flaws. They thought the driving was solid but the shooting bits were poor.

Overall verdict
goes for realism like the getaway but ends up being clunky, clumsy and frustrating as well as rough around the edges

If you can phase out the average writing then the review does make some good points, quite a few infact that have been made on the forum i.e. not enough driving

That hardly sounds like a 75% score, whether you class 50% or 70% as the average marker. Usually an overall verdict has something redeeming in it.

PSM2 is a Joke and it's writers amaturish.

That's the problem, apart from Dan G who's been at Future for years all the other writers are basically, well, us. Two of the writers are competition winners (who just so happened to write the HUGE Driv3r review). It's like giving me GTA to review, asking me to do an 8-page feature & it's only my first day on the job. When a beginner with no writing skills to speak of is writing one of the biggest reviews of the year you just know there's something wrong with the magazine. These people should be writing news articles not reviews.

Driv3r got 6.0/10* from the latest issue of Gamepro Australia.

* In real terms, that's 4.0/10.

On the plus side, I've noticed that DRIV3R is already available second hand at the Revolution CD branch that's down the road from where I work. (To be fair, It's not quite as bad as the sight of Superman N64 being available second hand 2 days after its release).

Doesn't tht just mean that shops' return policy has gotten more lenient over the years- i.e. if you bring it back a day after you buy it, it goes back on the shelf as new, not as 2nd hand?

You seem to be thinking of the likes of GAME/Electronic Boutique.

I'm talking about this particular chain of chops that deals mainly in second hand CDs, DVDs & games. They have a handfull of new ones but most of their stuff is second hand.

They had Driv3r new for AUS$89.95 & second hand for AUS$74.95. I was more interested in getting Flipnic for AUS$29.95.

I've just just noticed this on Atari Australia's Forum:

http://gnforums.planet.net.au/showthread.php?threadid=20637&perpage=15&pagenumber=1

"Geese" (Atari guy):
Quote:
Well, I can't agree with you at all. The official PS2 mag in Australia can't either. They have scored it highly and their review will be out shortly.

The part that I'm suspicious about is why he would know about the score before the magazine was published.

"Geese" responded by saying:
Quote:
It's common for publishers to be given .... on the score of a game in a mag, but the exact score remains confidential until the mag is released on sale, in this case mid July.

Are there any journalists on this forum who can shed some light on this?

I was in a services on the M4 when I saw the latest PSM2. I couldn't stop laughing when I read that there might be a copy of Driv3r enclosed. Hmmm.......so the blatant advertising continues! Very Happy

Got Driv3r over the weekend. Like it in places, don't like it in others.

Some obvious visual glitches, a bit shoddy, but generally playable.

Good Film Director mode and the mini games are instant and fun.

Nice selection of vehicles.

Crap 'on foot' action, poor controls make gameplay feel 'unfinished'.

Ambitious city designs, needed more work, but a good idea almost pulled-off.

It would appear Reflections needed another six months to turn this game into a game worthy of the 9/10 some have erroneously awarded it.

As it is, I see no more than 6/10.

Last one out, switch off the light. Very Happy

So, Edge give it a 3 I imagine that Edge has too much integrity to bow to pressure from publishers hence the more reliable review. Come on guys face it XBW and PSM2 lied, they were bribed/blackmailed and they will lose a huge proportion of their readership over this, I predict they will be canned in three issues.
