Dude, it's an opinion. I hated Manhunt, yet my Brother loved it. I'd say 4, he'd say 8. Edge just happened to like it as much as my Brother.

Unless of course you can prove Edge were swayed into this decision...

I think this is the best and most accurate review of Driver 3 to date:

http://reviews.msxbox-world.com/review.php/327

Closing Paragraph:

"Players and fans of the original titles will not be disappointed, providing they are capable of looking past the obvious similarities between Driv3r and the GTA series. Driv3r is an experience which I would recommend to those with an open mind who can look past graphical issues and occasional poor AI which detract very little from the overall experience especially in the undercover mode. "

Is that not what I've been saying all along.

Or maybe they just liked it as much as my Brother. We'll never know.

Unless of course, they run an editorial detailing the whole thing...

There was a rumour that came out stating that Rockstar bribed magazines to give their other titles high scores or threatened not to give them the new GTA before release. I personally agree with you, Manhunt is an abomination of a title as is State of Emergency, I hardly saw a bad review of either title when they both deserve around 3 or 4/10.

Games TM gave Manhunt 3/10. When the issue was reprinted in Australia the review score was taken out and the review was changed to be more positive, other then that the magazine was identical*. Why would Manhunt be the only review to not receive a score?.. seems somewhat suspicious, don’t you think?

(*This is what I read on more then one forum including this one, I have no proof personally.)

Hmmm. A couple of hours into the game and I am, despite all that has been said here, trying to approach the game with an open mind. And it is good.

But the more I play, the more the game's graphical issues are starting to hamper my enjoyment of it.

I am now on the level where Tanner driv3s to a hotel in the middle of the night and has a shoot out with some thugs on the roof top. Time and time again I am in a situation where I have the aiming sight for tanner's gun clearly placed in sight of the enemy's body or head, but the shot will not connect due to the fact that as there is a wall or an object nearby, and the game decides that the offending wall or object is in the way of my shot.

Surely you would agree, dave, that situations like these detract from the overall experience?

I dunno, if that happens surely you just move slightly. It really doesn't make a difference.

I used to frequent the site for fans opinions and discussions on the Driver series and the upcoming release of DRIV3R, then it was released and the forum was destroyed. Most seem to love it by looking past its faults, a few rip it apart.

In the meantime can i just say to anyone with the XBOX version who has live - you HAVE to see this clip..

Sign into live, then press right to see the list of "top director" clips people have uploaded, select one by a guy called "KASPO" uploaded on 25/06/04 at 14:23 - it's so funny.. Tanner perving over a bikini chick.. very funny stuff.. especially the part about half way where he's doing something dodgy behind a tree then seems to leave a suspect white stain on it.. Shocked

This is by far one of my favorite features, and that clip (saw it a few days ago, is he still on top?) was well done and historical!! I wish you could save their replays (can you??) I also wish it could be given a name/short description, but non the less, threads will tell you the best instead of sifting through them all.

Yes, I am on that level and the part I loathe is when your on the roof and make your way down the staircase, the baddies pop-up and take a big chunk of health out of me and I end up dying cause I can't aim the gun, it is to sloppy for me. I know those guy's will be there next try but they are not there if you look over the edge to take them out. No, they only appear as your on your way down.

I took them all out from the balcony with no problems...

Don't ask me if it is reliable (it was off the Atari forums), but someone said there were dodgy and perfect copies of the game. The dodgy ones having all the bugs and the 'perfect' ones being less buggy. Can't say if it's true though.

Well, I will try again to look over the balcony. I too enjoy the game but have a hard time with the aiming. I personnally would have waited as long as it took to get a flawless copy of DRIV3R, but I am happy I got it. Now one has to wonder what is next for Reflections?????

I've played it quite a bit tonight now and i'm quite enjoying it, it's certainly not a total mess as some have said, at least, not from what i've played so far.

The on foot bits are as appalling as i expected but the actual driving bits are great fun.

Yes the AI is ropey at times, yes there's very noticeable popup and the graphics on the whole are nothing special but they're decent enough and overall, I'm having fun with it.

The mission mode is shonky due to the on foot bits but the driving games and free drive bits are quality, the directors mode is fantastic (especially with the ability to upload your recordings via xbox live and share them with the world) .

I've yet to see a single bug - I'm also upto the hotel level described above. That level is very frustrating due to the poor aiming.

I think if there was no on foot bits like the first game, i'd give the game a solid 7 or 8 based on what i've played so far (assuming the rest of the game was of the same quality - it's possible the bugs will appear further on) but the on foot bits really spoil it for me so i'd say a 6 is about the right score - mainly cos you can have fun and avoid the on foot bits by playing the other modes.

Overall I guess i'm dissapointed and content at the same time.. dissapointed cos i was really looking forward to the game and it's not as good as the original, mainly due to the on foot bits.

Content, cos i was expecting an unplayable mess after reading all this and so far, for the most part, it's a fairly good, solid game with some flaws and i've yet to see anyo f the bugs mentioned here (though maybe i've been lucky so far).

Gonna be playing it a lot this weekend so will post back any more findings once i've played some more.

I wonder if the post saying some copies have bugs and some don't is accurate as based on what i've read on here i'd have thought i'd have had at least one crop up by now.. the same thing happened with MSR on Dreamcast with some copies having a bug that messes up the kudos calculations - Sega offered replacements to anyone with the problem but for some reason only some copies had the problem.

But back on the main topic, 9 is definately too high a mark - it's a 6 maximum in my opinion, any game this long in development that doesn't even match the original in terms of quality and fun definately doesn't deserve a 9 in my eyes.

I can now see why dodgy_dave is being a bit defensive when people say its an unplayable buggy mess as that doesn't seem to be the case at all.. it's a slightly above average game and if you put up with the on foot bits and then get into the director mode etc.. you'll probably have a fair bit of fun with it.
