They switched off the analogue TV signal round our way a while ago. But strange things haunt the airwaves still. Very occasionally, late at night and under certain atmospheric conditions the precise nature of which are impossible to identify or predict, it's possible to tune in to some sort of broadcast whose provenance is the epitome of mystery.

Nobody knows what the broadcasts are or where they come from. Are they beamed from a far-off world, or are they instead some sort of echo of our own transmissions, bouncing back from the stars and planets in twisted, fragmented form? Are they interference from a parallel dimension, leaking through the void as something familiar yet unmistakebly alien?

By its very nature, the phenomenon defies electronic capture. Modern digital recording devices play back only dead air and static. But those who searched the frequencies obsessively for the happenings soon discovered that the images and sounds could be trapped using antiquated analogue equipment.

The inability of such equipment to record continuously means that few of the captured broadcasts have been seen in their apparent entirety. Some were only seen as brief splinters in the first place, while others were incompletely received through operator or mechanical failure. But the archive grows steadily.
