A great loss

A film championed consistently by AP is The Italian Job, the Young Michael Caine/Mini Cooper caper movie that was unusually well-written, funny and exciting, and which (given the smashing ending) amazingly never had a sequel.

We were therefore amused to receive, after the fashion of It's a Skull, a lengthy animated demo called Super Skidmarks In The Style Of... The Italian Job, by Dominic Cresswell.

Using graphics from the Eight-Player Cow Game of Champions and a cleverly-edited set of samples laid over the legendary theme song, (It's A) Self-Preservation Society, the demo faithfully recreated the bit in the film where the robbers, racing away from the Turin police in their red, white and blue Mini Coopers, spontaneously reverse perfectly into convenient car-park spaces and so elude their pursuers.

We thought it terrific, and bagsied it a prominent spot on the forthcoming second AP CD. But that collapsed, and the demo was too large to appear on a coverdisk as had It's a Skull itself.

Almost uniquely, Super Skidmarks In The Style Of... The Italian Job wasn't lost when the AP Offices were razed. It was in fact lost about a month before, during one of the moves.

A Mini Cooper is also featured in The Avengers, a film about which everyone in the entire world was utterly wrong except Jonathan.

It is hugely entertaining.
