In fact it's from a free book called "Unknown Pleasures" given away with Melody Maker once, about fantastic albums that weren't commercially successful. The quote is specifically from the incredible, every-line-a- spine-tingler piece by Chris Roberts about Dexy's Midnight Runners' astonishing "Don't Stand Me Down", which ends:
"Here is the influence 'Don't Stand Me Down' had on the course of popular music.
None whatsoever.
You are all stupid scum and deserve to die, but that's another story."
Still brings a lump to my throat every time I read it, writing fans.
