A splendid quote from Greg The Publisher, by then Future's managing director, on the subject, around the time of AP54:

"One day it'll come to you having five thousand pounds in the budget, and it'll be five thousand pounds to spend on the magazine, or five thousand pounds to spend on the coverdisk."

It would clearly have spoiled the moment to have mentioned AP's budget hadn't been five thousand pounds since about issue 16. By issue 54 you could have bought AP for five thousand pounds.

Thankfully, unlike with sister mags Sega Zone and Mega, both "re-launched" as poster booklets of violence-inciting monstrousness, no one tried.
