I immensely enjoy writing captions, and strike poses of cursing if they're done for me, moving to impotent shaking of fists if they're terrible because it's my name on the thing.

Some mags insist captions are delivered with the screenshots, but that's ridiculous. Clearly not all will be used, so your best joke might be missed out. Far better to see the completed page on screen and let that inspire you. Then replace the bits that have been changed in the text, of course.

But anyway.

I clearly remember the Defining Moment in captions.

The magazine - YS. The writer - James Leach. The moment - YS73's re-release reviews. On one page, "I'm out of fuel and about to crash into this blimmin' huge cannon! Eeek! (Clunk!)" On the next, "Spewney Rellits' convincing smile masked the heartbreak of failure. If only he hadn't conceded to his vanity and knocked off all the corners! But now it was too late. Pobweeg's guests lay squashed, his house unfashionable, his napkins debased. Snapping the brim of his hand-blocked Homburg, the disgraced king of chisels rifled Quibbers' pockets and strolled out, out, out into history."

James, I salute you.
