ORIGIN: UK Pocketeer no. 31323 (1976)

VARIANTS: Shooting Gallery, Combat Tank

GAMEPLAY: One of many games to utilise the shooting mechanism, Bombard was clever in that your objective was to hit the tiny pins at the bottom right-hand corner of each target. If you struck them with enough accuracy and force, the picture would swivel round to reveal an image of the target being destroyed. Neat. It's very hard to get all four targets with just six shots, though. Combat Tank is identical except for the name.

VARIANT: Shooting Gallery

ORIGIN: US Tomy Pocket Game

DIFFERENCES: Name, theme, colour and graphics. It's perhaps slightly odd that the US got the cute, cuddly fairground version of this game, while the UK got the violent, warlike guns-and-tanks version...
