I’m not going to make an argument about DRIV3R. I’m just wanted to say my views about this game. I’ve got it for the Xbox version and so far it hasn’t been any big problems or glitches. I noticed that some of FMVs has been paused for about a half second but I wasn’t bothered about it as it’s only a minor thing. Apart from it, it has been brilliant to play on it and the missions can be difficult but I did managed them though. The graphics of the vehicles and buildings are really incredible and I don’t know how they can put all the things in 9.7GB disc. DRIV3R is a driving game genre and it’s not like GTA’s style. I think it’s better than The Getaway, True Crime and probably GTA as well. But they had made it for 3 years and are they deserved to have a high score and I would say yes.
I would give it 9/10 and it’s not a perfect game but close though. _________________ Everything that has a beginning has an end. |

No, I don't agree with Joao. He's a lovely man, but I just think he's wrong. Plain and simple. In my two years here, no one (and I can't emphasise this strongly enough) has told me to mark up a game for whatever reason. Which is not to say we haven't ever got things wrong, or been caught up in the hype sometimes - but corrupt? Not in my experience.
Because Joao is the ex-editor of Edge does not make everything he says gospel. Much as that magazine, at least under its old team, might like that to be the case. One man's opinion is always just that. One man's opinion. - Tim Clark, 2004

That was Tim Clarks reply to the interview with Joao (former Ed of Edge) that was posted on the playstation.co.uk forums last month. Sadly I can't find it - one of the most revealing interviews it was too. _________________ That's a disc drive. What's been in them you ask? Well:

Maybe this also explains the big "the gamecube cant handle the graphics of this game" mystery that bemused so many of us.
Cant handle the graphics? maybe they just realised because the game wasn't much cop bringing it out on the cube (where games of this genre are less profitable and its the home of the game scrutinising triple A only buying nintendo fanbase) would gather them about 2 sales.
Just a thought...although i'm sure lots of people will disagree but then i never said i was right. _________________ I hope some animal never bores a hole in my head and lays its eggs in my brain, because later you might think you're having a good idea but it's just eggs hatching. |

I haven't played the game yet, but going by peoples impressions it seems like its turned out exactly as i expected:worse than gta, but still a fun game for messing around in.
Dodgy_dave: you seem to be constantly hyping this game up. Clearly just going by the glitches that have been mentioned its not worthy of such high scores. I think it still looks fun though, but it should have been better.
As for people complaining about the graphics. I think they look damn good when compared to other games in the genre.
People just have to look at it for what it is. Its probably not the pile of crap a lot of people would have you believe, nor is it not the spectacular game others would have you believe. Its just a competent but flawed update of the driver series, thats enjoyable to play for fun. _________________ This is a block of text that can be added to posts you make. Yeah, but some of the glitches mentioned can seriously affect the fun factor, especially in the main mose of the game. I think the free roam looks enjoyable though. Bouncy cars could be fun. _________________ This is a block of text that can be added to posts you make. There is a 255 character limit |

Crashing into invisible walls, and pop up sure as hell wouldn't be enjoyable.
I am actually more concerned about the gameplay though. It sounds as if its fine, but its hard to tell seeing as so many of the people are split between the game. It either bad or great. No-one seems to think the game can be just good. _________________ This is a block of text that can be added to posts you make. There is a 255 character limit |

I've had the game since Friday and on the whole I'm a bit disappointed. It definitley isn't the game I and many others were hoping it would be. Glitches aside, it is reasonably good fun to play if you like GTA, Getaway etc. and although it used to have an individual touch, it's now a poor man's Vice City with a lot of focus on shooting and other aspects away from driving.
One thing I've also noticed is that the game is fairly short. I would only class myself as a gamer of average ability, yet I am up to the the third mission on the last of the three cities, Istanbul. At this rate I will be done in a couple of days and will be feeling cheated by how easy it is. Certainly not in the same league as Vice City and not much better than the first two games on PS1.

Played the game for about an hour tonight. Now that is not enough by a long way to form a definitive opinion, but the thing that really killed it for me was when you were in a hotel and kill a few of the bad guys..The room they are in is bland, little furnishing, and bland colours, and yet, just 20 seconds after you shoot them they disappear right in front of your eyes..Today, on an Xbox game that for me is unforgivable and just kills the experience..
I could mention the woeful controls when on foot, the 200 metre draw distance of the vehicles, the slowdown, the fact that triplets walked past each other and yet did not seem to notice...
I could see me loving this game, just not in its current state, it needs many months of work.. It will be going back and put into the "what could have been" pile.. |

You’ve hit the nail on the head here. With all the problems that the game has it’s clearly not finished and needed at least another month or three in development to iron out these little problems. The fact that there are so many glitches surely spoils the overall package. The ones I highlighted on page 1 of this thread alone should set alarm bells ringing and I really wish someone from PSM2 and XBW would get themselves on this thread to at least respond to some of the points we’ve raised. I’ve got a feeling they’ve been prevented from doing so hence no response. It’s a shame really, I’d really like to hear their side of the story. _________________ Xbox Live Gamer Tag: Steve007 |
